 CHOOSING OUR DAMS AND SIRES
At West KY Goldens and Doodles, we are deliberate about choosing dams and sires that are emotionally and physically healthy. Occasionally there can be physical issues common to dogs that we breed to eliminate.  We only breed dogs that have been GENETICALLY TESTED.  In addition, we choose only those that have no sensitive stomachs, no skin or food allergies, no UTI's, and no yeast infections.  Our breeding stock has great, low-maintenance health.  Temperament is also paramount in our process.  Both our dams and the sires have laid-back, peaceful personalities.  We do not breed dogs that show any signs of nervousness, aggression, or separation anxiety.  Our dogs are playful when it's time to play and relaxed when it's not.  In addition, we choose dogs that are intelligent, trainable, and quick learners.

INDOOR WHELPING AND REARING OF PUPS
All of our litters are whelped and reared inside our home.  We choose to do this to ensure the greatest comfort for our dams and the health and socialization of our pups.  Being in our home, the pups are exposed not just to us, but also visitors, children, and our other dogs.

GOOD MANNERS TRAINING
INITIATING PRE-POTTY TRAINING
To make your transition and potty training most successful, we start the process from the time they are 3 weeks old.  We employ a variation of the Misty Method to encourage the pups' natural instincts to potty separate from where they eat.

INTRODUCTION OF COMMANDS AND ACCLIMATION ACTIVITIES
About 4 weeks, we introduce puppy food.  At this time we immediately begin the "COME"' "SIT", and 'KENNEL" commands.  The pups will not be completely trained in these commands, for that to happen you will have to continue the training process. However, these exact words do not have to be used by you for the pups to be successful with these commands.  At this age, pups simply become familiar with the expected actions, not the words.  These are the first 3 commands we teach our own pups.
In addition, we perform certain BODY MANIPULATIONS that can become a problem later if neglected.  Each day we play with their paws, love on them while they are on their backs, look into and play with their ears, brush them, and lift their tails.  All of these will have to be done at some time either by the vet or you.  We acclimate the pups to all of these to make these necessary activities much easier.
We employ BITE INHIBITION TRAINING, SNIFF AND FIND ACTIVITIES, and THE AUTOMATIC SIT.  These all combine into what we call GOOD MANNERS.

 VACCINATIONS, WORMERS, AND VET CHECK
All parent dogs are genetically tested.
All pups will be current on vaccinations and wormers.  At 8 weeks they undergo a full vet check.

We are truly happy to employ all these things so you may have the best experience bringing your new puppy home.
